Qualifie les créations artistiques au début des années 90 conçues avec et sur le réseau Internet par opposition aux formes artistiques traditionnelles simplement (re)pésentées sur le web.

Une autre définition du Net art d'Annick Bureaud et Nathalie Magnan : “Il s'agit d'œuvres qui n'existeraient pas sans Internet, lequel englobe différents protocoles (email, ftp, telnet, listserv, le Web, etc.). Les artistes, le numérique et les réseaux s'y confrontent. Les moyens de production sont également les lieux de diffusion (et inversement)”.
